Scrum - Daily Standup

Let’s take a closer look at the Daily Standup ceremony inorder to better understand what happens, who’s involved, and what the expected outcomes are.

1. What’s a daily stand-up/scrum

The daily scrum (sometimes called ‘stand-up’ or ‘DSU’) is a meeting where the scrum team synchs up with each other to give an update on the work completed and what their focus (task/work) is for the day. Also, this meeting helps to identify any blockers and keeps the team aligned toward the sprint objective.

2. When does it occur?

The daily stand-up meetings occurs every day during the sprint, from the first day until the last day of the sprint. Ideally this meeting should happen at the same time everyday during the sprint.

3. Who is involved?

Daily stand-up ceremony is usually for the scrum master and development team, however product owners are welcome to join.

  • 👉 Product owner: (optional, listens for updates)
  • 👉 Scrum master: facilitates the meeting and help the team remove ay blockers
  • 👉 Developement team: actively discuss progress of tasks for the sprint

4. How long is this meeting

A daily stand-up is a short, time-boxed meeting (usually 15 minutes)

5. What’s the expected outcome of this meeting

By the end of this meeting, the scrum master and development should by in synch with the status of what’s been completed and what’s being worked on. Here’re more details:

  • ✅ Team alignment: everyone understands the current progress and priorities.
  • ✅ Identified blockers: Any obstacles preventing progress are surfaced for resolution.
  • ✅ Updated sprint backlog: Scrum master will adjusted tasks based on progress and new insights.
